A little while ago, one of our editor’s was meeting some old college friends when he met a fellow alum for the first time. This alum is named Gabriel Wolff, and he is the founder of Wink Frozen Desserts, a recently founded ice cream company that lets you leave any guilty feelings at the door when you pick up a spoon to enjoy this delicious dessert. DOWNTOWN was ecstatic with not only the taste of Wink, but the fact that a half a cup of this frozen dessert has 35 calories, contains zero fat and is perfect for any non-dairy or vegan eater.

Wink is the first frozen dessert that’s fat, sugar, dairy, nut and gluten free. But then, you might ask what this dessert is actually made of? The secret is yellow peas. This makes the ice cream rich in fiber and protein and avoid a lot of the unhealthy pitfalls so common in most other frozen desserts.

DOWNTOWN was quite impressed with the Wink flavors we tried: Cinnamon Bun, Cake Batter, Caramel and Cookies n’ Cream. At first the taste was a bit unexpected and took some time to get used to, but once you remember how healthy this frozen treat is, it’s hard to put it down. Also, it’s generally better to think of Wink as something of a sorbet rather than ice-cream due to its softer consistency.

Wink offers another four, more traditional flavors in mint chocolate, strawberry, chocolate and vanilla. All  eight flavors are available for purchase directly from Wink on their website.
