A new line of wood watches has just surfaced from Florence, Italy. The creation of an established shoe manufacturer who loves watches and two eco-smart entrepreneurs active in the sustainable movement, WeWOOD is on a mission to “make watches to protect and restore forest wildlife, clean water and carbon sequestration.”

Since their inception in 2010, these light, glamourous and 100 percent natural wood watch have already made a name for themselves around the globe as an avante-garde and sophisticated approach to supporting sustainability. Additionally, besides looking great (and aging naturally to look even better), WeWOOD watches are a great way to save trees. For every watch purchased, one tree will be planted, and by the end of 2012, WeWOOD’s partners, American Forests, will have planted over 35 million trees. How cool is that? These watches are real, renewable and durable, and are a great and distinct way to enhance your clothing.

WeWOOD watches come in many different styles, and each style is available in four of their several types of wood: Maple, Red Celtis, Mahogany, Coffee Tree, Blackwood, Guaiaco and Indian Wood. These sustainable watches are available in designs for men, women and unisex. Recently WeWOOD just created two specific watches for women called the Odyssey and Moon. Below are some of our favorites from the collection.

The limited edition Odyssey has small face with a bracelet and oblong case. It is made with Red Celtis, a type of wood mainly used for flooring, and is exclusively made for women.

The Moon watch is available in both hard and soft maple. The hard maple is creamy white, curly or wavy and has straight grain. Soft maple is similar, but a little less glossy. This watch is modern and vintage all in one.

The limited edition men’s Jupiter watch in Army is hypo-allergenic and free of toxins and has two Miyota movements. It is made with Guaiaco wood, which is native to South America and is used for herbal trees (known for powerful healing). Men: you can look and feel like a soilder with this watch.

The Date in black is designed with Blackwood, which is native to Tasmania’s forest, and is long lasting. This watch is also free of toxins and non-allergenic, and makes a perfect compliment to almost any man’s style or outfit.
