On Wednesday, J.Crew announced that Madewell’s head of design — Somsack Sikhounmuong – will takeover as head of women’s design from Tom Mora. The Thai, Canadian-born designer previously worked at J.Crew from 2001 to 2012.
In 2014, Madewell experienced a 33 percent increase in its 2014 sales. It is likely that under Sikhounmuong’s command, J.Crew will enjoy similar success in the coming years.
This change in command isn’t spelling the end of the Madewell that we’ve come to love. Rather, we can excitedly anticipate J.Crew’s route towards excellent fitting and simplicity captured by Madewell under Sikhoungmuong.
