Head to Rumsey Playfield in Central Park tonight for some laughs as the City Park Foundation’s SummerStage program hosts Comedy Central Stars Under the Stars, one of the many free performances taking place this summer in NYC parks.
The two-hour show, from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m., will feature Comedy Central stars such as Workaholics’ Adam Devine, John Mulaney, Jeff Ross and Amy Schumer, with an opening set from Dan Soder.
Well-known stand-up comedian and Comedy Central star Gabriel Iglesias will be the host.
SummerStage is hosted each year at Rumsey Field in Central Park with short films and performances covering a variety of genres and cultures. Events include musical, dance and spoken word performances, with artists both locally and nationally known gracing the stage.
City Parks Foundation (CPF), the only nonprofit organization providing free programs in parks throughout New York’s five boroughs, took over SummerStage in 1994 as the program began to draw larger crowds and bigger name artists.
Notable SummerStage performances have spanned from a novel reading by Nobel Laureate and Pulitzer-winner Toni Morrison to an indie music concert by Vampire Weekend and a celebration of lead jazz, funk and soul artist Roy Ayers’ 70th birthday with performances from the acclaimed jazz singers and composers The Jazz Mafia.
Aside from SummerStage, CPF offers other free programs in art, sports and education to help improve the community lives of New Yorkers and support their parks.
Other upcoming SummerStage events include:
June 29, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
Celebrate Canada’s 146th birthday with a free showcase of Candaian talent like electro-rock artists Lights, rock musician Joel Plaskett and his band, and folk trio, Spirit of the West.
July 2, 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The Freedom Dance Party, the longest running, weekly Friday-night party in NYC, provides a free show from Herbert Holler, DJ Cosi and Marc Smooth. The show will include a wide range of hits from 60s classics and 80s rock to today’s Rap, House, Rock and more.
