Former NYC mayor Michael Bloomberg finally decided it was time to bring his world-traveled relay race back home. On April 21st, the Square Mile Relay will make its first ever stop in New York, pitting ten-person teams from the city’s top financial firms and investment banks against one another for a charitable cause. So far, 38 teams from 30 different corporations have registered for the race.

The race is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. and will kick off on Fulton Street in the Seaport District. The mile-long course will have runners weaving through the heart of the Financial District, with the main stretches coming along Front and Water Street. Upon the completion of one mile lap each lap, the runner will hand off the baton to a teammate who will then too run the course. The first team to have all 10 of their runners cross the finish line will be crowned the winner and receive a $10,000 donation to the charity of their choice.

After the race, which is expected to end around 8:30 p.m., participants and spectators alike are invited to attend the post-race party on Fulton Street at the Race village. The festivity will include a live DJ, food and drinks.

The Bloomberg Square Mile Relay officially partnered up with the National September 11 Memorial and Museum for the event, and will make a donation to aid in the overall mission of the commemorative organization. “Partnerships such as these are critical to help ensure the Memorial and Museum is sustained, and that visitors from around the world, especially current and future generations, will be able to experience this world-class learning institution and living tribute for years to come,” said Cathy Blaney, 9/11 Memorial’s Executive Vice President of Institutional Advancement, in a press release.
