All beginning riders in the sport of cycling will encounter the dreaded “sore tush” syndrome. No matter what type of seat you begin with, placing all of your body weight on such a small area takes some adjustment. The comfort transition time is different for each rider so be patient before you make a decision to replace your seat. Should you finally decide to replace your original saddle, Serfas has a myriad of choices.

For over 20 years, Serfas has been manufacturing all types of saddles. Their expertise in this area has established them as one of the leaders in the saddle industry. In fact, it was the seat that successfully introduced their company to the cycling industry. Through extensive research and development they have created a line of over 50 saddles that will fit any rider’s needs. Add to that a 90-day comfort guarantee and you cannot go wrong. As with anything they sell, they stand behind their products with a promise of complete satisfaction.

If your desire is performance, Serfas has 12 models you can choose from. My saddle of choice was the Carbon Saddle. Composed of a carbon composite base and carbon fiber rails, this seat weighs only 155 grams. As comfortable as any seat on the market, this saddle is offered in white (Ghost) and black (Phantom). It is amazing how something so light can be so comfortable.

If you need maximum comfort, the proprietary E-Gel saddle line has nine models for you to choose from. The Dual Density standard saddle base is beneath a thicker layer of gel surrounded by a soflex material that is completely waterproof. This saddle features the trademarked Deep Grove design that insures a plush feel with plenty of support.

City bike riders demand a saddle that is highly versatile and there are six saddles that make up this line. Offered in a variety of widths, they come with a built-in handle for lifting and moving your bike. These saddles are engineered for those who are constantly on the move.

Tailbone comfort saddles are, without question, the best in comfort and value. Engineered in 1993, they returned a few years ago and are once again a popular line. There are six saddles that belong to this line and they are compatible with either cruiser or hybrid bikes.

If your needs are confronting the rough roads of the city, the Dual Density line is for you. All five models are designed with rubber inserts coupled with I.C.S. padding and the Deep Grove design. This seat will soak up any vibration or uneven surface you may hit along the road.

Reactive Gel saddles allow the bike and the rider to move harmoniously together. The 12 saddles that comprise this line contain an extra layer of gel which reduces friction. The Deep Groove Design further increases comfort by relieving pressure on the soft tissue area.

Lastly, the RX line consists of nine models. These saddles contain a groove down the middle coupled with a raised seat position. Together this helps eliminate pressure and reduce numbness around your soft tissue and place the weight of the body where it belongs.

The next time you find yourself searching for excuses not to ride because you dread sitting on that uncomfortable bike seat, check out Serfas. I am confident that you will find a perch that will allow you to ride in comfort.
