by | Aug 5, 2015 | News

The North Cove Sailing School at Brookfield Place will host a regatta for the Wounded Veterans Adaptive Sailing Program on August 18. Twenty Wounded Veteran participants who have progressed through the Retreat and Adaptive Sailing Program will compete in the morning and afternoon races.

Offshore and North Cove Sailing School will provide its Colgate 26 fleet, along with instructor coaches to conduct an orientation of the vessels and local waterways.

Established by retired Command Sgt., Maj. Nelson Corbin, the Wounded Veterans Retreat Program is dedicated to introduce therapeutic and rehabilitative activities to improve the lives of veterans and their families.

Sgt. Maj. Corbin personally trained at the Offshore Sailing School’s resort-based campus in Ft. Myers Beach, Fla. at the Pink Shell Beach Resort & Marina.

Sailing fosters team building and the development of individual skills and self-confidence in a social environment; all of these components build towards the enhancement of veterans’ lives.

Following the regatta, Pier A Harbor House restaurant will sponsor the Regatta Awards Dinner.

Offshore Sailing School operates two schools on New York Harbor in Lower Manhattan (North Cove Marina in Battery Park City and Pier 25 in TriBeCa). Its sailing programs include lessons and rides, and sailing certification courses from Learn to Sail and Performance Sailing to Bareboat Charter Cruising and Passage Making. Visit the school’s website for more information on course schedules, locations and other sailing programs.
