NYFW Hair Trends and How To Recreate Them!

by | Sep 16, 2015 | Beauty

Envision a cloud of aromatic hairsprays, scatters of makeup brushes saturated by a myriad of colors, a team of artists cloaked in a sea of black, reservoirs of cosmetics, and a mass entanglement of wires: this is the backstage beauty aesthetic of Fashion Week.

This week, while artists where clutching coffee cups for fuel, they were prepping models for the shows. With runway walks lasting a total of 10 minutes, it’s the tedious behind-the-scenes prep that allow everything on the runway to look effortless.

This year, amidst the chaos, we noticed major hair trends, and a commonality among the designers’ beauty teams. The trend: Soft curls and deep, sleek hair parts. Designers such as Altuzarra, Cadet, DVF, Prabal Gurung, Badgley Mischka, and Josie Natori all featured these looks on their runways and predicted the beauty looks of Spring and Summer 2016.

You might not have an expert beauty team at your disposal, but we’ve got you covered from root to tip on this seasons hair trends and how to recreate them at home.

Whether it’s to hold your hair down for a sleek middle part like Rita Vinieris’ models or to keep your soft curls in place like Laurel DeWitt, our hairspray of choice is Oribe’s Superfine Hairspray. Allowing you to spray then style, or vice versa, this product keeps a long-wear hold without getting crunchy like low quality hairsprays. Fly aways become a thing of the past, and it provides a consistently brushable hold; making this the perfect product for the runway. Oribe was recently used at Wes Gordon and Sally Lapointe’s SS16 collections.

For a sleek, parted look:

1. Part your hair whichever angle you prefer. Use a fine tooth comb for a sharp line.

2. Hold the spray a few inches away from your head and apply as needed.

3. Smooth the hair by brushing it and placing behind your ear.

4. Apply a few extra sprays if you think the initial amount wasn’t enough.

5. Tip: If your hair is long enough, take the strands from the part hair and fasten them with tie at the nape of your neck. This way, you’ll ensure your hair’ll stay in place and you’ll achieve the sleek/tight look.

For your curls, we recommend the NuMe Lustrum 5-in-1 curling system. With 5 different heads to fit all preferences, the tourmaline barrels protect your hair and keep it frizz free while you style.

For the soft curls seen on the runway:

1. Wrap a sizable amount of hair around the barrel.

2. Hold for 15-20 seconds.

3. Release and hairspray.

4. Once you’re finished with the whole head, run a brush through each curl. This will release the tight hold of the hairspray. Then your curls will appear soft and bouncy, but they won’t lose their hold.
