New York City is home to some of the most alluring museums that house the world’s most famous and historic works of art. Each museum showcases various art forms ranging from contemporary, historic and abstract art. While attending a museum is a definitive way to connect with the artists being showcased, you’ll also enhance your understanding of the effort and emotion behind these masterpieces. One piece of art can tell an in depth tale about the artist’s techniques, the time period, the emotion and the culture. If a picture is worth a thousand words than a museum speaks infinitely.

The MoMA:

The Museum of Modern Art is home to some of most prominent works of art from famed artists of our time. The exhibitions range from film to art to sculptures. They spark conversation for museum first-timers all the way to art fanatics. Some of the most recognizable artistry is housed within the MoMA, such as the ‘Starry Night’ by Vincent van Gogh, ‘Campbell’s Soup Cans’ by Andy Warhol and Salvador Dali’s ‘Persistence Of Time.’ Located in Midtown, on 53rd Street between Fifth and Sixth Avenue, you can gaze at the art work that encompasses both the past and present.

The Met:

The Metropolitan museum is the largest museum in the United States and showcases art from a much wider range of ages. This museum is divided into global categories; as you enter, you’ll find yourself hopping from one continent to the next as you venture into the aesthetics of various cultures ranging from Arabian to Colonial America. With tour guides available to facilitate your grasp of each form of art, you’ll immerse yourself into a worldwide excursion. Located at 1000 5th Avenue, you can see some of the most well known creations such as the ‘Water Lily Pond’ by Claude Monet and ‘Study of a Young Woman’ by Johannes Vermeer.

The Guggenheim:

The Solomon R. Guggenheim museum is a work of art itself. It’s exterior design is inverted and is a testament to the geometric and modern work displayed within. The Guggenheim’s abstract art mixed with older works creates a dichotomous relation between centuries past. The museum features a huge range of work, showcasing pieces from Pablo Picasso’s Woman with Yellow Hair to Fernand Leger’s The Great Parade. Located at 1071 5th Ave, the museum provides lectures from critics and performances. Also, daily tours are available from museum experts and educators.

These are only three of Manhattan’s best museums, so take a trip to one of the finest attributes New York City has to offer. Admission is inexpensive and their hours are extended on the weekends. Additionally, each offers a coat check, allowing you to shed your layers and spend the day there and marvel in the paintings, sculptures, and film. Visit their websites to see more of their exhibitions and admission prices.
