Humidity-Proof Makeup

Pinch, punch, today’s the second day of the month… with turbulent weather. In its monthly forecast for June, AccuWeather predicts 80-degree heat throughout with frequent rain showers and increasing humidity.

While humidity is completely normal for June, what should be normal are our melted faces. Humidity makes it difficult to have a set makeup routine that will brave the elements. If you want to look good, you have to prepare well.

In anticipation for the official start of summer, here are the makeup products that will survive these upcoming sweltering weeks.

Forget foundation opt for BB cream for your daytime look. Read our post about these miracles here, but in the meantime we recommend:

Smashbox Camera Ready BB Cream ($39): There’s no need to limit your activities to the confines of air-conditioning. The SPF of 35 will shield your skin from the sun. Its light coverage gives a natural sheen without caking the face.

Tarte Cosmetics Cheek Stain ($30): To withstand the erasing effects of humidity, you need a product that will adhere to the skin. This cheek stain does as its name implies: it will stain your cheek for hours on end. Although highly pigmented in its packaging, once applied, Tarte’s cheek stain gives a natural sheen. It can also be used as a lip stain. Tarte is generous in the amount of product it packages into the container. Expect to use this product for the next few summers to come.

Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion ($20): Strength is built upon foundation. If you hope for your eye makeup to stay, then eyeshadow primer is the base that you must build upon. The primer potion comes in three formulas: Original (transparent base), Eden (nude matte base) and Sin (champagne shimmer base). A layer of the primer will give your eye makeup the strength it needs to last the rest of the day.

Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Á Lèvres Glossy Stain ($36): This lip stain is a triple threat: a glossy finish, opacity and lasting power. There are 14 shades of pink and rouge for your choosing. If purchased from its site, YSL offers an auto-replenishment service every three months.

Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner ($25): Bobbi Brown’s gel formula is applied as easily as liquid liner, but its finish is longwearing and water-resistant. These dual characteristics make this eyeliner infallible against the degrading effects of humidity. This liner can be used to line the waterline and create a cat-eye. Whatever the look may be, your liner will be as precise from when leaving for your commute to after-work cocktails.
