Honduras set for a sold-out Bowery Ballroom gig on May 26th

Every now and then, a band comes along with such a quick ascent that you have to take notice. In the case of Honduras, the quartet hasn’t yet put out a full-length album –“Ritualized” will be released in September on Black Bell Records, a label owned by Passion Pit‘s Ayad Al Adhamy – yet the acclaim has come from both critics and musicians like. A few weeks back, Honduras served as the opening act for Blur’s first North American gig in 15 years; Converse had presented them as an option to the headliners. Meanwhile, Rolling Stone, Nylon and Noisey are among the media outlets heaping praise, while Entertainment Weekly recently premiered their single “Paralyzed.”

The Brooklyn-based Honduras will be playing an already-sold-out gig at The Bowery Ballroom alongside FIDLAR and METZ on Tuesday, May 26th. Vocalist/guitarist Patrick Phillips answered some questions about the band’s past, present and future for Downtown. While not lengthy in his responses, one ought to expect a lengthy future for Honduras.

How would you describe Honduras to someone who hasn’t yet heard the band?

Honduras’ Patrick Phillips: Music to help you with your problems.

How does your live show compare to your recordings?

P: They’re similar, but I think on our upcoming record we were able to capture our live sound better than we ever have. Shows are very important to us, and to see us play live reveals what we’re about.

Even before your first full-length album has come out, Honduras has been praised by Rolling Stone and gigged with Blur. What accomplishments are left on the to-do list for Honduras?

P: We want to tour the world and continue making records together.

Where does playing live in Honduras rank on your priority list?

P: Number one.

It’s out there that you did modeling prior to playing in Honduras. What do you think the biggest misconception is about modeling?

P: Modeling was just another job that allowed me to continue (barely) living in New York.  I had some interesting experiences, but it’s not the most fulfilling occupation.

What’s ahead for the band after your gig with FIDLAR and METZ at the Bowery Ballroom?

P: Tour, keep improving, look out for each other.

Finally, Pat, any last words for the kids?

P: Patrick love the kids.
