1. Runway Look

Rent the Runway Sample Sale (Flatiron)

Tues, Sep 29th-Sun, Oct 4th (Tues 11am-8pm; Wed-Thu 10am-8pm; Fri-Sat 10am-7pm; Sun 10am-3pm)

Now that New York Fashion Week is behind us, we can finally shop the runway looks! Rent the Runway is having their fall sample sale. There will be serious deals, and if you have a tailor who can make the little (occasional) defects disappear, then you will be strutting down the runway (or to the bodega) in no time.

2. Meatpacking is Open

Locations Throughout the Meatpacking District (Meatpacking)

Thurs, Oct 1st-Sun, Oct 4th (Check site for times)

This new event opens up with a huge bang: a performance by Santigold and DJ Sets by

Nick Zinner (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and Tanlines, with drinks and bites from the hood’s bars and restaurants (tickets are $125)! The rest of the weekend, the neighborhood will host free tours, art shows, fitness and meditation classes, a pop up park, live music and a pamper station. Meanwhile, the surrounding shops will be offering in-store activities, and up to 20% off on purchases along with other shopping perks. A highlight we are particularly excited about is the screening of the documentary “Florent: Queen of the Meat Market” which details the history of the iconic French diner. Make sure to sign up for the exclusive access tours. FREE

3. Horror Stories

Horse Trade Theater Group at The Kraine Theater  (East Village)

Thurs, Oct 1st -Sun, Oct 11th (check site for details)

We may have grown up, but we are never too old for a good scare. Nothing frightens the pants off us like a good scary story. The H.P Lovecraft Festival is a celebration of the kind of storytelling telling that sends you running from your shadow, makes your blood run cold and infects you with an incurable case of the heebie-jeebies. If horror is your kind of fun then come get terrorized! $20

4. New Yorker Festival

Check Site for Venues

Fri, Oct 2nd-Sun, Oct 4th (Check site for times)

The New Yorker Festival is your favorite magazine come to life! This weekend long festival is a chance to hear and see what makes this magazine  intellectually stimulating and challenging. On the roster are conversations and panels from Junot Diaz and Alexander Hemon, Malcolm Gladwell, Andrew Solomon and many other fascinating people talking about riveting topics in politics, science, music history, art, cinema, food, environment and more. Don’t miss the culinary tour of Greenwich Village and Chinatown by Calvin Trillin. Tickets start at $40

5. Pickle Day

Orchard Street and Delancey (Lower East Side)

Sun, Oct 4th from 12-5pm

A pickle a day keeps the doctor at bay. While we may have made that up, it does not change our love of the salted, brined, dilled, vinegared, soured and spiced cuke. There is nothing that a good pickle can’t cure. A vodka chaser, sandwich optimizer, cravings satisfier, an all around best friend, come pay homage to the pickle in this all day event which will feature food, fashion and fun, with pickles.

6. Military Wives

Public Theater (East Village )

September 29th-November 29th (check site for times)

A beautiful new play by Zimbabwean-American playwright/actress, Danai Gurira starring Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o, Eclipsed, set during the Liberian Civil War, is a story of a new girl entering the household and world of captive wives. It’s a play about survival and humanity, despite chaos. Tickets start at $60
