1. Classes on the Cobbles

Gansevoort Plaza (Meatpacking)

Thurs, Aug 6th starting at 5:30pm

The Meatpacking District is not just about the High Line, trendy clubs, and fancy shops and restaurants. The cobbled streets are also home to a free fitness series offering outdoor yoga, Kore circuit training and core fusion classes over the course of an evening. Come get in shape or, if you’re already a sculpted Adonis, come to be seen. Next round after this Thursday is on August 20th. Registration is required. FREE

2. Cold Summer Ramen

Ivan Ramen (Lower East Side)

Daily for lunch (weekend brunch) and dinner

Who said you have to put your ramen noodle obsession on hold for the summer? It’s time to switch to cold noodles and nobody knows ramen better than Ivan Orkin. He is the first American chef to open up a ramen shop in Tokyo: now that’s serious ramen street cred. Swing by Ivan Ramen for one of his refreshing cold ramen creations: the citrusy-salty Cold Lemon Shio Ramen,  the tangy Iced Summer Shoyu Ramen or the smoky-savory Hiyashi Chuka.

3. Free Caribou Concert

Thurs Aug 6th from 7-9pm

East River Park (Lower East Side)

This is our not-to-be missed SummerStage concert. Caribou’s (Dan Snaith) career is defined by engrossing electronica sound landscapes that combine and expand on a number of genres.  “Our Love,” his latest record, and the first in four years after the stellar work on “Swim,” is his most intimate work to date. Come share the love at this free concert.

4. Sophisticated Ice Pops With a View

Loopy Doopy Rooftop Bar at Conrad Hotel (Battery Park)

Every Mon-Thurs 4pm-12am Fri-Sat 12pm-1am Sun 12pm-12am

With so many great rooftops bars to choose from, where do you go? Well, you go to the one that speaks to the sweet tooth of your inner child and the discerning palate of your outer, hip adult self. In other words the bar that slips ice pops into your prosecco glass. Sweeping views of the New York Harbor and the Statue of Liberty aside, you won’t be able to resist Loopy Doopy’s ice pop creations as they swim in the on-tap prosecco. Go for the likes of raspberry-thyme with vodka, peach-ginger with rum and pear-vanilla with sake.

5. Beer Sail

North Cove Marina (Financial District)

Sat Aug 8th at 2:30pm

The Alphabet City Beer Co. sponsored sail around New York is far from your typical booze cruise. For one, you’ll set sail on a turn of the century sailing yacht, and you’ll be drinking excellent craft brews from the Brooklyn Brewery. Accompanying this excursion is an array of delectable snacks, great company,  the sound of the Hudson on the wooden hull and some of the most spectacular views New York has to offer. With just three cruises (the others are Aug 22nd and Sept 19th)  left this season, you don’t want to miss this boat. Tickets $75

6. Mind-Blowing Ballet

The Joyce Theater (Chelsea)

Tues Aug 4th-Sun Aug 16th (Check site for showtimes)

The Ballet Festival at the Joyce Theater showcases some of the finest works of contemporary ballet. Those that think ballet is all tutus and pointe shoes will have their mind blown by performances from Joshua Beamish’s MOVE: the company, the Chamber Dance Project, the Ashley Bouder Project, Balletx, Emery LeCrone and Amy Seiwert Imagery. With tickets starting at $10 there is no excuse to not get all cultured this summer.
