Vieilles Charrues, the largest music festival in France, has announced a special event for its 25th anniversary to take place at Rumsey Playfield. It is the first time that a European festival of this size will come to Central Park.

The concept for #VCNY16 is the result of a meeting between the producers of the non-profit festival Vieilles Charrues and BZH New York. #VCNY16 will take place on Oct. 1, with a line-up bridging pop, electro, hip hop, and ancient Celtic melodies.

The Avener will bring a classic French electronic touch as the co-headliner of the festival. A DJ on the rise and star in the making, he was discovered this year by Vieilles Charrues. His sophisticated electro is a manifesto to the spirit of St Germain and his Boulevard’s nu-jazz sampling, reconciling the styles of Moby and Wankelmut, King Britt and Cassius. While writing his own music and ghost producing many club hits, The Avener also samples Sixto Rodriguez, John Lee Hooker, Mazzy Star, The Be Good Tanyas, Andy Bey and Adam Cohen in a mosaic of seminal blues, underground folk, nocturnal pop, ironic rock and the work of forgotten artists from the 70s and 80s, exploring secret paths of memory.
