With one of the most anticipated fashion events on the New York calendar right around the corner, DOWNTOWN is taking it upon ourselves to ensure you are fully up to date with everything ‘Fashion Week’.
In less than two weeks, New York’s Lincoln Center will be transformed to host to the Mercedes Benz catwalk for the final time, as designers debut their 2015 Fall and Winter collections. After 8 years the event’s most significant sponsor, Mercedes Benz, will no longer be affiliated with the event, which is set to move downtown to Hudson Yards next year after legal issues plagued the 2014 event.
Beginning on February 12, the nine day event will comprise of 90 shows, showcasing a range of designers such as Carolina Herrera, Monique Lhuillier and Vivienne Tam. The Theatre, The Salon and The Pavilion will be utilised as venues within the Lincoln Center, with some designers including Donna Karan and Ralph Lauren choosing to hold their shows off site.
So how should you prepare for the biggest fashion event of the season? Well, shows are invitation only, so unless you have some marvellous connections, you may have to enjoy the star studded spectacle from a far. Most designers do however publish footage of the show or photographs of each look on their website and social media pages. The extensive press coverage also ensures you will not be missing out on too much.
