In advance of her Sept. 22 headlining show at Bowery Electric, Anna Rose has exclusively shared her recording of “Downtown Train” with Downtown.

The singer/songwriter — who notable blog Diffuser recently described as “pure American rock & roll with gorgeously constructed songs and a softer emotional center” — is now touring in support of her new EP, Strays In The Cut.

Anna conducted some Q&A with Downtown conjunction with this premiere:

Where was the first gig you ever played in New York City? What do you remember about it?

Anna Rose: Oh man, I’m not sure if I remember where my first show in the city was! I do remember a specific show at The Living Room — when it was on the Lower East Side — really early on. I was playing solo with my acoustic guitar, totally nervous about whether people would like my songs.

What is your favorite thing about New York City?

AR: I really love the weirdness. New York encourages people to be unique. I was born here — in Hell’s Kitchen — and though I’ve spent time in other cities, there’s no place that kicks my ass like home. It’s a place that really challenges you to be the best version of yourself.

What’s to be expected from your show at Bowery Electric?

AR: It’s actually going to be the official release party for my new EP, Strays In The Cut! The music is already out in the world, but we’ve been on the road so it will be amazing to celebrate the new songs with a hometown show. Hope you can be there to party with us!
