In celebration of the 4th of July, the mannequins in the windows of Catherine Malandrino’s Meatpacking District store were adorned with the brand’s iconic American flag shirtdress, paying homage to our nation’s most historically significant day. Celebrities from Miss USA 2014 (Nia Sanchez) to Meryl Streep have been spotted in Malandrino’s eye-catching piece, highlighting the  diverse age range to which the patriotic number appeals. This statement outfit, however, was not the only draw of the private event to which DOWNTOWN Magazine had the opportunity to attend. We also viewed Malandrino’s latest collection, which consisted of wardrobe staples for the modern woman, including everything from casual knit tops and leather jackets to floor-length evening gowns in various brightly colored hues.

A native of Grenoble, France, Catherine Malandrino captures the spirit of feminine strength and power in her designs, drawing inspiration from art, fashion and film to create her collections. There is a softness to her style which conveys the allure of the female physique, showcasing the individuality and confidence of the modern urban woman. The designer, who once stated that, “no two women should look alike, because no two women are alike,” manages to infuse the elegance of Parisian fashion with the edginess of Manhattan’s cutting-edge city life. Her quality clothing never fails to make lasting impressions on the fashion community.

Helena Velleren, vice-president of international marketing and communications at World Wrestling Entertainment, and Heidi Diamond, president of Diamond Enterprises, both spoke at the event, providing words of wisdom and stories from their own experiences as successful entrepreneurs in an industry driven primarily by men. When asked to describe themselves in a single sentence, Diamond, a self-driven media consultant responded immediately, “I am a warrior.” Velleren then replied after her, “I am a global citizen who loves different cultures.” It is evident that both women are anything but pushovers when it comes to business; they declare the importance of staying true to their brands while maintaining a sense of poise and determination. They were the ideal candidates for representing the event, both influential female business icons, providing the guests with much insight into their values and perspectives on their work, peers and personal life.

We would like to thank 6-Figures for hosting the event and providing us with this exclusive invitation.
