Experience the Taste of the South at “The Art of Alabama Food” At Chelsea Market

The Alabama Tourism Department presents an opportunity to experience authentic Southern cuisine through a traveling photography exhibit named “The Art of Alabama Food” set to debut at The Chelsea Market Gallery through February 2

Thirty-six images selected from the “100 Dishes to Eat in Alabama Before You Die” list by the Alabama Tourism Department  inform and entice guests with imagery from restaurants that embody the culinary capital of the South.

Alabama’s food scene has flourished over the years with such dining destinations as Chef Wesley True’s TRUE Restaurant and Chef Chris Hastings’ Hot and Hot Fish Club which have both been ranked annually by the James Beard Foundation.

On Thursday, January 30, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., the gallery will transform into an exciting and private (invitation only) event which will let attendees experience such award-winning food through the visual manifestation of a photograph to delicious actual meals  prepared by attending guest judges including:

  • Bob Baumhower, Baumhower’s
  • James Boyce, Cotton Row
  • Lucy Buffett, Lulu’s
  • Chris Hastings, Hot and Hot Fish Club
  • Chris Lilly, Big Bob Gibson Bar-B-Q
  • Tasia Malakasis, Bell Chevre
  • Nick Pihakis, Jim ‘N Nick’s Bar-B-Q
  • Wesley True, TRUE

  • January 27 – February 2: Chelsea Market, New York, NY (Gallery open daily from 11 a.m. to  7p.m. and 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Thursday, January 30th)
  • April 22 – 28, 2014: Hotel Monteleone; New Orleans, LA
  • May 12 – 18, 2014: The Mall at Green Hills; Nashville, TN
  • May 26 – June 1, 2014: Lenox Square Mall; Atlanta, GA
