A Conversation With Ethical Fashion Source MAISON DE MODE

by | Dec 1, 2015 | Fashion

Maison de Mode is changing the way people think about ethically-produced clothing, serving as a conglomerate of chic and stunning ethical fashion brands. Founded by Hassan Pierre and curated by Amanda Hearst, the brand is promoted through various pop-up boutiques that are created around high profile film festivals, fashion shows and art fairs. It has even set up shop in the South Street Seaport, which is quickly morphing into a hub for many exciting and dynamic attractions. Downtown spoke with founder, Hassan Pierre about the inspiration behind the brand’s inception as well as exciting news that patrons can look forward to.

What compelled you to create an ethical fashion platform?

I had received some very good press for my luxury sustainable label Way It Should Be & Amanda was writing all about sustainable fashion for her column at Marie Claire. I had conceptualized the idea in hopes to further the idea that sustainable fashion is luxury fashion; Amanda shared that same vision and we created our first boutique.

Have ethical fashion brands grown in popularity?

Yes, it’s gone from superficial marketing tool to a great reality today.

Do these brands have a strong presence in NYC?

Yes, and across the USA we are seeing designers produce domestically around the country.

How does being a traveling brand affect its growth and direction?

We are always exposing our brand to such a wide international audience which has been a tremendous strength in launching the online component, we have customers all over the world.

You currently have a pop up studio at South Street Seaport in downtown
New York, do you feel that the area is pertinent to the brand?

Yes, we are always looking to innovate with our boutique. What Howard Hughes is doing to the district is so forward and cool, we had to be a part of it.

Is there any exciting news regarding the brand for people to get excited
about?

We are about to launch a digital pop-up with Paul Kasmin Gallery which will debut during art Basel in Miami the first week of December.
