We pay little attention to our diets when we are younger since we feel invincible and levy minimum restrictions on what we should and should not eat. But as we age, it is important to start controlling your portions, your daily nutrition and certain foods to add and remove in your diet once you have reached the age of 40. Though a nutritionist can help form a diet plan for you, here is a list of food that benefit your metabolism and health so that you develop fewer chances of diseases/ illnesses in the future.

Fish-

If you’re a seafood fan, grab some salmon, tuna, sardines or basically any fish rich in Omega-3 fats. These fats can aid in regulating blood pressure as well as heart rate, and even reduce the risk of having irregular heartbeats. But make sure not to overcook the fish and cook on a low heat to keep the Omega-3 fats from cooking away. You can also make your day better by adding some greens to your dish on the side. Not only will it taste good but it will improve your day by keeping you fresh with the added nutrition.

Chicken-

It is not like chicken isn’t already consumed far before you reach 40, but this source of protein really helps you maintain your weight and muscle. The best part is that that there are a variety of ways to eat chicken so you can experiment with different dishes and cooking methods; steam, boil, grill- but try to avoid frying. The less oily, the better!

Almonds-

Almonds have always been considered healthy for youngsters at a developing age, but its effects have advantages for adults to; especially if you’re in your middle ages or deal with cholesterol and blood pressure-related problems. Almonds can aid in protecting against diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. By having a certain amount of almonds in your diet, your blood-sugar levels can improve significantly, as seen in several studies.

Oats-

On every health-related site, oats’ benefits are likely to be mentioned since they have been observed to have a number of benefits, whether it is for your skin or your health. For adults over 40, you can keep your cholesterol at a minimum by adding oats to your diet. They contain beta-glucans, which help get rid of extra cholesterol in your blood. This is just one of the many health benefits oats can provide to you, so add these grains to your daily routine to maintain a healthy lifestyle. You can consume them either as oatmeal with milk, or yogurt. As you age further, oats can even reduce your chances of developing heart diseases.

Soy Beans-

Soy beans too, have several advantages when added to your diet. They are a good fertility booster for men over 40 and can help increase women’s bone-density once they have begun to reach menopause. Soy beans are also helpful in reducing cholesterol. They are widely available either in fresh stock or in cans, so they can easily be added to your diet. They do not need to be consumed too much though- just two to three times a week will be enough to get the desired results.

Milk-

If you think you don’t need milk once puberty has hit and you don’t need to grow anymore, you are mistaken. Milk, specifically full fat milk, taken daily along with a healthy nutritional diet inclusive of greens, seeds and nuts, can give you the strength you need to combat issues that come with old age, such as the reduction of muscle mass. It is preferable for men to consume whole milk rather than a calcium supplement, but if they choose to, they can stay on the supplement provided they get professional advice regarding its usage. Whole milk can be taken with your daily cup of tea, coffee, and other drinks.

If you maintain a healthy diet, you will likely not have to visit the doctor or your specialist very often regarding nutrition problems. You have to keep yourself safe from these common food myths. The above listed will help you combat a number of ailments including looking or feeling old!
