This June Governors Island is hosting its 11th annual Jazz Age Lawn Party. On June 11 and 12 and again on August 13 and 14, Governors Island as we know it will be transformed into 20’s prohibition Era paradise. Though no official program for 2016 has been announced yet, we hear there will be plenty of activities to partake in.
Put on your tap shoes and your flapper dress or vintage suit and take a step back in time. Join in on a dance lesson or two before skipping on over to join the Charleston dance off or check out the High Court Pie contest with categories such as “Mom’s Best” and “Hobo’s Choice.” Whether you just want to enjoy a slice of pie or have a recipe to enter, this contest is sure to be a crowd pleaser.
Stroll down Colonel’s Row and marvel over vintage portraits, antique gramophones or the 1920’s car exhibition. You can also enjoy a nice break with a picnic in the grass.
For entertainment, several talented performers will take the stage during the event. Event goers can look forward to Michael Arenella & His Dreamland Orchestra, Roddy Caravella and The Canarsie Wobblers as well as many others talented performers gearing you up for a dance session. Idlers can simply enjoy their music with a Gin rickey.
Tickets are available now through their website and include general admission tickets for adults, children and VIP tickets.
