As we transition into the warmer months of the year, we celebrate the warmth of the sun soaking into our long-deprived skin. Though, not without complications, the sun’s rays also raise concern for makeup lovers. Although we’d like to keep our products consistent year round, the warmer weather does call for a shift in products.

BB creams, also known as beauty balms, have a special international history. Originating in Germany for hiding scars from surgery, they then began to gain popularity in Asian countries for their ability to smooth and create porcelain-like skin for actresses. Here in America, these gems have been used for a multitude of reasons: for lighter coverage, to conceal unwanted blemishes, and give a more natural makeup look.
The formulas of BB creams are consistent of many elements, from spf to antioxidants to anti-aging to moisturizing. Making for a key summer tote staple, BB creams are your alternative to heavy foundations. Not only does the heat affect your foundations longevity, but the over production of oils on your skin can cause breakouts simply by not letting your skin breathe.
Now certainly, we’re not recommending no makeup, but we’re recommending that you choose wisely!

Burberry Beauty ‘Fresh Glow’: ($44) This cream helps enhance luminosity and provides a beautiful glow. Using earthy and natural ingredients, the product consists of a blend of floral and herbal extracts. Available in fair, medium and dark, the product is located on the Burberry website or at Nordstrom locations.
Lancóme Bienfait Teinté: ($45) Another BB cream with a high spf of 30, this summer savior is available in six shades, ranging lightest from Porcelaine, Clair, Naturel, Tan, Sand, and darkest, Caramel. Providing 24 hour hydration, it’s a no brainer that you’re skin will feel quenched beneath the summer rays. Lancóme can be purchased at Sephora location!
Now that you have your bb cream, it’s time to apply. Application is best done with your fingers, because you can control the product distribution and the heat of your touch will help melt the cream into your skin. Trial and error is imperative with BB creams, because of course, not all makeup is universal, certain products work best on certain skin types and complexions, so the only way to know is to try until you’ve found your match!
