This season was full of changes in the fashion industry, from the first collection of Nicolas Ghesquière for Louis Vuitton to the return of Natasha Poly and Freja Beha Erichsen to the catwalk. The highlights of New York included the Alexander Wang show; he moved his venue to the Duggal Greenhouse in Brooklyn. Wang’s collection was the definition of masculinity and sportswear hybrids he is known for. This time he focused on survival and extreme sports, such as climbing and mountaineering. Marc Jacobs had the most anticipated show of NYFW, and he closed the week with a peaceful and über-chic collection that was inspired by spas and the different colors of the sky in the sunset.

Paris, as always, was the mecca of extreme luxury this fall. The debut of Ghesquiere for Vuitton was an extraordinary homage to French fashion; the collection started with a caramel collared lambskin coat which set the note of a modern, wearable future for Louis Vuitton. Gisele Bundchen closed the Balenciaga show, which introduced neon colors and shiny textures to the aesthetic of the house. The models wore coats with laminated fabrics like tweed, the accessories were exquisite- crocodile leather and fur bags, and the models carryied three at the same time- can it get more luxurious than that?
