The Barre, which is a wooden rod set up across a studio’s wall for ballet dancers to warm up on, has also become a trendy new fitness fad. If you are looking for a different way to work out this season, Physique 57, a popular barre brand, is opening in FiDi on January 1st.

The company was first started back in 2005 by Jennifer Vaughan Maanavi, who works around Wall Street. When a well known fitness studio called the Lotte Berk closed, Maanavi took the opportunity to create a business partnership with Tanya Becker, who was one of the top Lotte Berk instructors in the country. Their first studio opened in February 2006 at 24 W 57th street.

Physique 57 is a well known company, already having four locations in Manhattan and many other across the globe, including the Hamptons, Beverly Hills, Dubai and Bangkok.

“We really believe FiDi is the next hot fitness spot,” states Maanavi, according to well and good.

The Barre is a great way for anyone to sculpt muscles and improve many facets of the body.

The technique that Physique focuses on is called Interval Overload. In this technique the muscles are overworked in a healthy way that ultimately helps shape the muscle tissue.

This gym also creates a unique fitness atmosphere with different lighting patterns that are dependent on the class. Stretch classes will have a warmer tone, and cardio classes will have more of a redder tone. The main goal of this is to connect the person’s emotional and physical senses together while engaging in a strenuous workout.

The classes range from beginner to advanced. Those interested in signing up can visit their website here.
