Mothers-to-be rejoice! A new resource at NewYork-Presbyterian/Lower Manhattan Hospital Birth Center is now open and available.

The Birth Center, located in the Labor and Delivery Unit on the 6th floor of the hospital is comprised of two birthing suites. The suites are equipped to provide families with a home-like birth experience within the hospital setting.  For pain management, the patient can utilize a hot tub or nitrous oxide.  If the patient changes her mind and desires an epidural, she is given the option of moving down the hall to deliver her baby in a L&D room.  Midwives assist the mothers with childbirth; with an attending physician on standby if they are needed.

Dr. Jacques Moritz, an obstetrician gynecologist at NewYork-Presbyterian/Lower Manhattan Hospital, explains that this is an unparalleled choice for New York City mothers.

“Many of my patients have told me that they would like to have the option of delivering at a birth center; however, they want hospital amenities nearby in case they are needed.  NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital offers an option that gives mothers a comfortable place to give birth, with added piece of mind.”
