If you ever find yourself seeking advice from some of the most influential and well-educated people in the childhood developmental world, then consider attending a speech during the Léman Community Association speaker series. The lectures are all completely open to the public in the Lower Manhattan community.

Throughout the year, The Léman Manhattan Preparatory School hosts speakers who address a wide range of topics that  benefit students, parents, and the local community. In the Léman Speaker Series, presenters strive to initiate a didactic conversation, addressing important issues pertinent to child development. All lectures in the speaker series are free of charge and do not require registration.

This season’s speaker series will kick off on October 16 at 5:45 pm with Dr. John Walkup, Director of the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Cornell Medical College and New York Presbyterian Hospital. His lecture, “Early Recognition of Anxiety and Depression in Children and Adolescents: What Should Parents Know and Do?”, proposes and attempts to answer essential questions relevant to child psychology. The topic is one all parents should be informed on.

Dr. Walkup will help caregivers understand anxiety and depression in children and adolescents, citing ways to identify symptoms as well as how to implement proper treatment. After Dr. Walkup’s presentation, all members of the community are invited to speak in a question and answer session.

So, head out to the Broad Street Ballroom, located at 41 Broad Street, for a lecture on the precursors of childhood anxiety and depression. This information may help save a child in need of help.
