Turkey day is right around the corner and the winter holidays are soon to follow. This is the time to do some holiday shopping and to let your style shine during the many upcoming festivities. Whether you are going to your grandparents for Thanksgiving dinner, Christmas caroling around your neighborhood, celebrating one of the eight nights of Hanukkah, or watching the ball drop on New Years Eve, outfit planning begins now. This is a time for sparkle, shine, and sales! Once your outfits are stylish and set in stone, you can then begin shopping for your loved ones without any distractions.

Thanksgiving is a time for color and warmth. This means neutrals, maroons, olive greens, mustard yellows, burnt oranges or anything that compliments your pale complexion of the winter months. If it matches the foliage of the leaves on the trees surrounding your house, then it is Turkey Day appropriate. We will be seeing a lot of flannel, printed sweaters, and vests paired with festive accessories.

This year, statement necklaces and printed scarves will make their way into almost any outfit you choose. Take advantage of J. Crew sales this season because the Excursion Quilted Down Vest is a must have. As for bottoms, we will be seeing a lot of colored and dark wash jeans to complete the look. Don’t forget a practical change of clothes and a pair of running shoes for beloved Black Friday shopping at midnight!

We then will transition from pumpkin spiced lattes and apple pie to egg nog and festive holiday cookies. The winter season is a time to sparkle and shine. Whether you are wearing a shimmering dress or your new winter green skinny jeans, resembling part of a Christmas tree or Hanukkah gelt is absolutely acceptable. To tone down a jubilant look, there is always the cozy sweater option. There are many options in Free People’s most recent winter line. These sweaters can be dressed up with festive jewelry and accessories or dressed down with your favorite pair of jeans and boots.

The snow bunny look is always acceptable in cold weather. If you can happily sit by the fire and sip hot cocoa and exchange gifts with your family and friends, then you have achieved the perfect holiday ensemble. Your holiday memories do come from who you are with and not what you wear, although what you wear is incredibly important to the faithful and festive fashionistas out there.

New Year’s Eve is a time where the cozy sweater look is not an option, unless you are sitting on the couch enjoying New Year’s Eve on TV with your closest friends and favorite appetizers. Your fabulous plans at extravagant locations should reflect in your outfit choice. This is a night where the “wow-factor” is expected along with sparkles, leather, and anything else that makes you shine like Times Square on December 31st. If you sparkle tonight, you will continue to coruscate through 2015!
