1. Thrill Day

The Celebration of Whimsy: The C.O.W (Lower East Side)

Sat, Oct 24th from 2-6 pm

One of the greatest music videos of all time is Michael Jackson’s Thriller. Thrill Day celebrates this iconic zombie jam by inviting fans to learn the dance routine and perform it in what the organizers hope will be the largest simultaneous performance yet! A zombie make-up artist will be on hand ($15), just make sure you get there early to sign up. Ticket prices include entry fee and dance class. Adults $40; Children: $20; Audiences $10. After party and bar crawl to follow.

2. Canine Dress-up

Tompkins Square Park (East Village)

Sat, Oct 24th from 12-3pm

We know plenty of New York eccentrics that dress up their dogs year round, but on the runway at Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade you’ll see the cutest, most outlandish and unique dog costumes ever!  The competition for best in show is pretty intense so dog owners will be striving to outdo each other — and we’ll be there to watch!

3. Halloween Candy

Economy Candy (East Village)

Daily

If you never been to this one-of-a kind shop in the East Village, than use Halloween as an excuse to browse and stock up on some seriously cool, weird and old school candy: Turkish Taffy, Bubble Gum Cigars and Cigarettes, Candy Buttons, Push Pop, Charleston Chew, Big League Chew Gum, Cry Baby Tears and our personal favorites, Shakespearean Insult Gum, Squirrel Nut Zippers and Pop Rocks.

4. White Truffle Season

Burger and Barrel (Soho)

Daily for lunch and dinner

It’s white truffle season and while you could splurge on a plate of pasta, we are going to hand our dough over to Burger and Barrel. Their white truffle burger, the Pat LaFrieda patty, toasted bun with melted robiola cheese and a white truffle aioli straight from Piedmont will have you dreaming of white truffle for weeks.

5. Lit Crawl

Housing works (Soho)

Wed, Oct 21st from 7-10pm

Get ready for some bookish-boozy fun at the Pen American Lit Crawl. In addition to crawling, attendees can enjoy intellectually stimulating games like Literary Pictionary and Nerd Jeopardy. There will be face-painting, raffles, prizes, Flash Portrait Drawing, Tarot Card Readings, photo booths, Better Book Titles competition,  Exquisite Corpse and more! Hosted by BuzzFeed’s Isaac Fitzgerald and author Mira Jacobs.
