1. Sunsets at the Jane

The Jane Hotel (West Village)

Thu-Fri 5 -10 pm Sat 3-10pm Sunday 3 pm 12am

Last year the historic Jane hotel opened its rooftop bar for reservation-only sunset drinks. This year, the reservations are gone and the hotel has added a food menu from its own Cafe Gitane. With unobstructed sunset and waterfront views and a rosé off their signature list, you may want to spend the night, at all costs. The rooftop is also serving food for the first time this season, from the ground floor restaurant Cafe Gitane.

2. New York is Poetry

Governors Island

Sat July 25th-Sun July 26th from 11am-6pm

New York is the most poetic city in the world, even if it often incites profanities and an unhealthy mixture of awe and frustration. 250 poets from across the 5 boroughs will converge on Governors Island for a two-day poetry cornucopia. This years poetic headlines are Nick Flynn, Patricia Spears Jones, David Matlin, Fran Quinn and many others. With Food, drinks, performance and art installations it won’t be hard to spend the whole day immersed in poetry.

3. Karaoke Bacchae

Wed July 22nd-Sat July 25th at 7pm

New Ohio Theater (West Village )

The Ice Festival is a sort of Sundance for innovative theater, where you guaranteed to see works from artists that are not afraid to take risks or push buttons. We are pretty stoked to see “Karaoke Bacchae” because Dionysus is the coolest of the Greek gods. Ruling over wine, ecstasy and theater his rites free his followers from societal constraints… No safe word here. Written and directed by Jesse Freedman, this modern version of Euripides’ tragedy, The Bacchae, includes a horny English teacher, Iggy Pop, drunk sorority girls, and an epic karaoke battle.

4. Rise and Shine

Mondays at 6:30

Want a good way to jump start your week and repent for all those poor choices you made this weekend? We know just the thing. Meet us every Monday at Washington Square Park for HIIT: High Intensity Interval Training, where you’ll do quick and intense sets of burpees, pushups, situps, dips, and box jumps. The best part is that it’s totally FREE. Just kidding, the best part is that HIIT last only 30 minutes. All levels welcome. P.S Additional and equally challenging classes are available in Brooklyn, Queens and Bryant Park.

5. Seamore’s

390 Broome Street

Daily 5pm-12am

King of meatballs Michael Chernow has gone fishing. His new fish spot, Seamore’s, is bright, cheery and casual. The cocktails are crisp, citrusy and strong: get the Shore Thing or the Ode to Wilson. On the menu is locally sourced fish that’s cooked in the open kitchen, We were pretty impressed with the Tuna Poke, the Crispy Fish Tacos (actually all the tacos on the menu) and the Oh Boy skate sandwich. Don’t forget to get an ice cream cone from Odd Fellows for dessert.

6. Indian Ice cream

Dinner 6 nights 6pm-late, Lunch Saturday-Sunday from 12pm, Closed Mondays

Yes, the new East Village Indian spot Babu Ji serves awesome Indian food, but we keep coming back here for the kulfi. kulfi is a frozen milk dessert from the Indian Subcontinent. With a denser consistency than ice cream, kulfi packs serious flavor. The aromatic version at Babu Ji is cardamom and pistachio flavor, with a smooth honey base. Additional flavors are in the works, not that you’ll need a reason to come back.

7. Fivestory Soho Sale

Tues July 21st-Sat July 25th from 11am-7pm Sun July 26th from 11am-5pm

Fivestory’s semi-annual multi-designer sale will be held in Soho this month. Expect racks packed with selections from Alexander Wang, Narciso Rodriguez, Carven, Jason Wu, Acne, Peter Pilotto, Chloe, Valentino, Sergio Rossi, Alexander McQueen, Thakoon, Preen, Acne and Jil Sander. With up to 80% off, men’s, women’s and children’s fashion, you can’t even say you splurged.

8. Colombian Independence Day Arepa

Daily

After recovering from the lively Jackson Heights Colombian Independence Parade, we are going to the Gansevoort Market for an arepa. The folks at Palenque have not sacrificed taste or tradition in the creation of their healthy versions of the Colombian classic. For arepas, choose from corn, quinoa or multigrain flour and then take your pick of stuffings. We are partial to the cheese and the angus beef fillings. Since it’s healthy and all, grab a few empanadas, patacones and the yuca fries on your way out. You know, for later.
