Belgian designer, Dries Van Noten’s Spring 2014 show was all about gold and glitz. His eclectic mix of ornate details and simple silhouettes made for a dazzling start to Paris Fashion Week.
With skirts elegantly decorated with ruffles spilling down the sides, along with balloon sleeves and faux gold leather, Van Noten’s collection had an almost costume-like quality, according to one writer from The New York Times who was struck particularly by “a white cotton poet’s blouse, the wine-dark, tasseled Ottoman knits or the cool, slouchy boy trousers.”
Paris’s Halle Freysinnet was the setting for an array of very stoic models, covered in Dries effortless designs, who strutted past such celebrities as Radiohead’s Colin Greenwood.
Van Noten has taken familiar styles and elevated them with his romantic outlook and unconventional patterns. He updates otherwise typical looks with new prints filled with florals, stars, and barbed wire, creating a fresh vibe with a touch of drama.
