Downtown Dwellers: Celebrities in Lower Manhattan

New York City is filled with stars, and many of them reside right here in Lower Manhattan. Check out our favorite celebrities living downtown and why we love ‘em:

Greenwich

Leonardo DiCaprio
Where: Greenwich Village
Why We Love Him:  When he’s not wooing audiences in front of the cameras, Leonardo DiCaprio is working as a philanthropist, encouraging sustainable practices and fighting for our planet. Founder of  the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), DiCaprio’s efforts bring good vibes to the Downtown community.

Hugh Jackman
Where: West Village
Why We Love Him: Actor, singer…coffee aficionado? Believe it or not, the Wolverine is also the founder of Laughing Man Coffee and Tea, a Tribeca based coffee shop that gives back to the community. According to their website, “100% of Laughing Man Worldwide revenue goes back to education, community development and new business development.” Jackman is a hero  both on and off the big screen.

Julia Roberts
Where: Greenwich Village
Why We Love Her: Though she grew up in Atlanta, Roberts moved to New York in the 80’s to begin her acting career. Almost thirty years later, and she’s still here, downtown. Whether she’s working with UNICEF, raising awareness for Rett Syndrome, or encouraging sustainable living, we’re glad this Pretty Woman is here to stay.

Tribeca

Beyoncé Knowles
Where: Tribeca
Why We Love Her: With her chart-topping new album, her jaw-dropping performances, and her heart-melting baby Blue, Beyoncé has become a global sensation. But, she’s not just an idle celebrity. Beyoncé encourages young girls to step into leadership roles and “run the world”, through her recent work with the Ban Bossy Campaign. Some call her Mrs. Carter. Some call her Queen B. Here, in downtown New York, we’re proud to call her neighbor.

Jon Stewart
Where: Tribeca
Why We Love Him: Jon Stewart is more than just a television comedian. Through satirical commentary, Stewart engages younger generations by encouraging them to actively participate in the political arena. His efforts, culminated in The Rally To Restore Sanity, raised money for educational charities. And when he’s not stirring up things in DC, Stewart is right here in downtown.

SoHo

Justin Timberlake
Where: SoHo
Why We Love Him: Justin’s got it all – the angelic voice, the hilarious sense of humor, the looks, and of course, a SoHo penthouse. Though there is speculation that Justin is selling his humble abode, our fingers are crossed that the rumors are false. We hope this award-winning superstar stays around for a while longer. Preferably, forever.

Jon Bon Jovi
Where: SoHo
Why We Love Him: Bon Jovi has become a cultural icon. Though his fame and fortune have afforded him a glamorous SoHo penthouse, he still takes the time to help others through his charity, the Jon Bon Jovi Soul Foundation. His foundation built the Soul Kitchen, a community restaurant that provides free meals to the hungry. Bon Jovi gives back to make sure that everybody can experience the feeling of livin’ on a prayer.

Arianna Huffington
Where: SoHo
Why We Love Her: Arianna Huffington is the chair, president, and editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post. She has been listed as one of Time’s 100 most influential women, as well as one of Forbes’ most powerful women. Needless to say, Arianna Huffington has left a lasting impression on our society, changing the way we interact with, learn about, and understand the fast-paced world around us. She has made some pretty smart decisions to get to where she is today, one of which includes her choice to settle down here in downtown NYC.
